Healthy People 2020 Law and Health Policy Project Webinar: A Focus on Healthcare-Associated Infections

Register Now | April 12, 2016 | 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are infections that patients get while receiving treatment for medical or surgical conditions. These infections can occur in a variety of health care settings, including acute care centers in hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, and long-term care facilities. HAIs are among the leading causes of preventable deaths in the United States each year and are a significant contributor to annual health care costs. One report from the Healthy People 2020 Law and Health Policy Project will focus on the prevention and management of HAIs.

Join us on Tuesday, April 12 for a webinar co-sponsored by the American Bar Association's Health Law Section, the HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), and the CDC Public Health Law Program. This webinar will discuss legal and policy issues related to preventing and addressing HAIs—particularly central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)—and will describe the legal approaches States and communities have taken to reduce HAIs and improve health outcomes. Attendees will also learn about efforts to reduce HAIs at the Federal and State levels, as well as the role of attorneys, including private practitioners, in encouraging the prevention and control of HAIs.
